01

Animal care & adoption

Sheltering, veterinary care, behaviour support, and matching every animal to the right home.

NHS provides housing, daily care, and full medical attention to every animal in our facility. Our staff and volunteers handle intake, behaviour assessments, enrichment, and the matchmaking that turns a stranger into family.

02

Owner surrender & rehoming

When a family can no longer care for a pet, we step in with dignity and discretion.

Our intake team works with owners to ease transitions, provide supports where possible, and ensure the animal is set up for a smooth path to a new home.

03

Reuniting lost pets

Found a pet? Lost a pet? We work alongside municipal animal services to bring them home.

NHS holds and cares for found animals, scans for microchips, posts photos, and coordinates returns. Most reunions happen in the first 48 hours.

04

Pet Aid: keeping families together

Food banks, vouchers, and short-term fostering for families facing hardship.

Surrender is often a last resort. Pet Aid provides the food, vet care, and short-term support that lets families weather a crisis without losing their pet.

05

Community & humane education

Classroom visits, summer camps, and partnerships with local groups across Northumberland.

We bring humane education to schools, libraries, and community events — helping the next generation grow up understanding what animals need from us.

06

Volunteer & foster network

A community of more than 300 volunteers and foster families that keeps NHS running.

From dog walkers to litter fosters to event leads, our volunteers are the engine of the organisation. New roles open every month.
